Thank you Dr. Waggoner!

The beginning of the Spring Break marks the end of Dr. Waggoner's tenure as superintendent of GCISD. Under Dr. Waggoner's leadership, the district saw dramatic changes. In the last 6 years, our TAKS scores increased significantly, earning our district the Recognized status from the Texas Education Agency. We also have 10 out of 17 (traditional) campuses ranked Exemplary. The district continued to earn the Superior Achievement rating under the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas.

Our district has a graduation rate of 95%, and has one of the strongest Advance Placement programs in North Texas.  Our students continue to scored significantly higher than state and national averages on ACT ad SAT college entrance exams.

During her time in our district, GCISD established important partnerships with the JPS Health Network (health clinic), Alliance Waste Management (recycling program) and the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital (Dyslexia program). The district also opened the Early Childhood Development Center for children of our employees. Finally, GCISD passed the 2005 Bond program, and completed all related projects on time and under budget.

Thank you Dr. Waggoner for your excellent service to GCISD!

  1. It seems Dr. Waggoner was looking for a new job despite the Board's intention to extend her contract. Also, about a month before her announcement, the CFO, Hank Johnson, left for Ft Worth ISD. She had an excellent staff when she arrived at GCISD. One would hope she would stick around long enough to find a CFO as good as or better than Mr. Johnson. Hopefully her replacement can help bring such talent to our district. With fewer students, resutling in less State funding, projected and "Robin Hood" taking almost 50% from GCISD for poor districts, a strong CFO and Superintendent are mandatory. I have a problem when I hear about increasing my school property taxes and for fewer students who get less funding.

  2. Looking for better opportunities is something most professionals do, so we can't hold that against Dr. Waggoner. CFO candidates would want to know who will they work for before accepting an offer, so it is best to allow the new superintendent to complete the CFO search.

  3. If she is so great, why are we allowing her to leave? Did she give GCISD and opportunity to counter her offer?

I think most professionals, especially those highly paid with public/my taxes, would better communicate their intention to leave. Her comments in the "The Sun" left me with the impression she was concerned about the State's Robin Hood program and fewer students/funds in the future. Time to move on...
